How Many Teeth Can Be Supported By A Dental Implant?
Conventionally, a dental implant supports an individual crown - this is commonly referred to as a "single-tooth implant". However, patients who have a number of missing teeth in a row, may not necessarily require a dental implant to be placed for every tooth which is missing; one or two implants can be capable of supporting a number of teeth when combined with a denture or bridge. The number of dental implants which are required will be determined by the density and volume of the jawbone bone at each location where an implant is to be placed. Sometimes, a smaller version of implants known as "mini implants" can be used to support dentures.
Where a complete row of teeth needs to be supported - such as in a "full mouth reconstruction" - at least 5 Implants would be required. The precise number of dental implants required will depend on each individual case. A cosmetic dentistry surgeon will be able to give you advice about the best treatment following an in depth consultation and examination.
