Implant FAQs
Why Would I Need Guided Surgery?
In the case if single dental implants guided surgery would probably not be necessary. However, if you need to have numerous implants or implants for one or more dental bridges or implant retained overdentures it is usually the preferred method. CT scans are used because they can accurately indicate bone loss and proximity to low sinus cavities and nerve canals; panoramic x-rays can also be used for this purpose but the level of detail displayed is limited as compared with CT scans.
Without the use of a CT scan it is not possible to accurately make an assessment. The Panoramic X-Ray method can on occasions cause the need for expensive procedures such as bone grafts and sinus lifts which can often be avoided with the use of CT scans and Surgical Drilling Guides.
Furthermore, the advantages of the CT scan & guided surgery implant method, can in some cases allow patients who may not have been able to have dental implants, due to an inaccurate diagnosis using the panoramic x-ray method.
