Cosmetic dentistry, sometimes referred to as 'aesthetic dentistry', can be used to treat a wide range of issues including chipped, discoloured, misshapen, gapped or missing teeth. Crowns are a well-established technique fixing a new tooth-shaped cap over the sound part of an existing tooth. They are more durable and expected to last longer than any other type of cosmetic restoration and they are used in instances where other types of treatments would not be as effective.

Dental Bridges are often an ideal treatment for individuals who have only one or maybe two missing teeth. Bridges typically consist of permanently fixed crowns on either side of a gap with a false tooth (pontic unit) in between. Alternatively a cantilever bridge can sometimes be used to support a false tooth from a capped tooth on one side.

Old Amalgam (Silver) Fillings can be replaced with Tooth-Coloured Fillings (White Fillings). With modern tooth coloured fillings it is often possible to find a very close colour match and in the majority of cases the filling it is virtually indistinguishable from the natural tooth enamel.

A modern technique which builds upon existing sound teeth for cosmetic improvement as illustrated below. Dental veneers consist of very thin pieces of porcelain which are accurately made and bonded onto the visible area of the front teeth.

Veneers are an effective treatment for improving the appearance of discoloured teeth. They can also be used to repair cracked or chipped teeth and/or close gaps between teeth.
