Yes, dental implant based restoration of the upper and lower arch is the only alternative to life with removable dentures in a case where a patient is devoid of teeth.
There are two options available to you when considering complete upper and lower arch restoration based around dental implants.
Option 1: Full upper and lower arch restoration with bridges fixed to dental implants.
6 to 8 implants are placed to the upper and lower arch in suitable stable locations. Once the implants have fully stabilised (3-6 months) they are restored with porcelain bridges of 12-14 units, replacing 12-14 teeth on each arch. In simple cases 5-6 appointments are required to complete treatment over a period of 7-9 months. More complex cases requiring bone restoration may require additional appointments and the treatment period may be extended by several months.

Option 2: Full upper and lower arch restoration with overdentures fixed to dental implants.
4 implants are placed to the upper arch and 2-4 are placed to the lower arch in suitable stable locations. Once the implants have fully stabilised (3-6 months) they are restored with acrylic overdentures of 14 units, replacing 14 teeth on each arch. In simple cases 5-6 appointments are required to complete treatment over a period of 7-9 months. More complex cases requiring bone restoration may require additional appointments and the treatment period may be extended by several months. Unlike traditional dentures, overdentures are held securely in place while attached to the implants and significantly improve the chewing function. They also are not supported by the palate (roof of the mouth) like traditional dentures making them far more comfortable than traditional dentures.
