What is Guided Tissue Regeneration?

There are several tissue regeneration procedures which can be used to promote the re-growth of bone which has been destroyed.

One of the more recent procedures is done with the application of a special gel to a diseased root of a tooth. The gel consists partly of proteins which are identical to the proteins naturally found in tooth enamel. This stimulates the growth of healthy tissue and bone matter as the body is tricked into thinking that the formation of a new tooth is occurring.

Another approach involves a section of bio-compatible material being surgically inserted directly between the existing tooth and bone. This promotes the growth of the bone by preventing gum tissue from covering the area where the bone is growing.
