Block Bone Grafting
Block Bone Grafting is a dental surgical technique which uses bone from elsewhere on patents body to replace an area jawbone which is missing due to disease or bone resorption.
Unlike many other tissue types in the human body, bone tissue regenerates itself and will grow into a space if it is available. Over time the grafted material is completely replaced as the bone grows which eventually results in new bone which is completely integrated with the existing jawbone.
The Block Bone Grafting procedure is carried in order to thicken specific areas of the jaw to enable an implant procedure to be carried out. The original thinning of the jaw is often due to periodontitis. A dental surgeon undergoes specialised training to carry out the procedure and the success rate of the operation is extremely high.
